Some time ago I used to run a forum host which allowed people to have their forum hosted on a subdomain.
This of course caused problems with regards to sitemaps as the sitemap had to be placed within the domain/subdomain that it was being used under. And Google treated subdomains as if they were different domain names.

Recently I was playing around in Google Webmaster Tools and found that I was ranking first for a particular term. I decided to see how popular this term is so signed into my Google Adwords account and found something a little surprising. (more…)

Matt Cutts has recently posted an article about Fuzz Testing.
For those of you that are unaware fuzz testing is the art of testing a piece of software by giving it random input. The reason this can be effective is that it can trigger unforeseen bugs within an application. In fact Matt gives an example of tests carried out on UNIX software which found that a substantial percentage of softwares were vulnerable and the fuzz testing caused the application to crash. Back in July or so I decided to take the plunge and spend $147 on the 2nd edition of Sitepoint’s Search Engine Marketing Kit 2nd Edition.
After a couple of months wait (the 2nd edition was not scheduled for release until q3 but they did provide a PDF of the 1st edition while we were waiting for the actual 2nd edition) and a couple of delays I finally received the kit. (more…)

Many people question the importance of DMOZ. Lets go back a few years. Google used to hold DMOZ with great esteem, they used to collect the database on a regular basis and sites that were DMOZ listed generally achieved a better SERP’s placement (Search Engine Results Page).

Ok maybe they did not but I have started seeing posts from people claiming that they have.
The people who claim they have been or are being scammed by DMOZ get a letter claiming if they do not receive $x within a certain time period then their listing will be deleted from the DMOZ open directory. (more…)
